There are many different ways touring San Francisco.
1. You can use the BART or the Bay Area Rapid Transport to tour San Francisco and visit all the places. This includes places to and from Oakland and San Francisco. It is cheap and fast means of transport. You have a BART terminal at the international airport. A downtown round trip is also available. This will take people to Civic Center (UpperMarket), Powell Street (Union Street/Moscone West), Montgomery (Financial District /Moscone North, South), and Embarcadero (Financial District and Ferry Building) and also taxi transfers to Fisherman’s Wharf. You can travel around the Bay area using BART.
2. Caltrain also serves San Francisco and they offer low cost trips.
3. San Francisco Municipal Railway or MUNI can be used to travel around the city. MUNI operates all the cable cars, buses and street cars in San Francisco city. You can get the route map and other information about MUNI at various places- like the newsstands and the Hallidie Plaza. The bus or car will have the destination and number displayed in the front. All the stops will be marked with signs and street markings.
4. You can use the cable cars to tour the city. It plies on three routes: the Powell-Hyde, the Powell-Mason and the California Street line. You can buy a MUNI Passport for the cable cars for one, three or seven days. To avoid standing in a long queue for the cable cars, you should not use it during peak hours.
5. Streetcars are also an available means of transport. They run via overhead lines from Castro District on Market Street to the Embarcadero and ends at Fisherman’s Wharf.
